Lee Montessori has joined forces with The Inspired Teaching School and our facilities partner Building Hope to submit an application to lease Shaed Elementary School.
This property is one of the vacant public school buildings released by Mayor Vincent Gray earlier this year. According to DC Law, charter schools have the right of first offer on school buildings that are "no longer needed for the purposes of operating a District of Columbia public school."
The approximately 70,000 sq ft building is located in the Edgewood community, at 301 Douglas Street NE. With ample space to house two programs and many young families in the neighborhood, we believe that Lee Montessori and Inspired Teaching will be a great fit for the building which has been vacant since 2008.
Next up, Lee Montessori, Inspired Teaching, and Building Hope will present our proposal to the community. This meeting will be held Monday September 16th at 6 pm at the Edgewood Recreation Center. Community members can expect to hear more about our educational programming, the planned renovation and revitalization of the site, and our commitment to including the surrounding community in all of our outreach efforts. Following this meeting and a review by the City Council, a selected tenant for the building will be announced in the Fall of 2013.
We hope to see our supporters there!
