Creating a more just, liberated world through Montessori education and a commitment to equity.

Lee Montessori was founded in 2014 to challenge inequity and close the opportunity gap in Washington DC.

Today, we operate two high-performing and diverse public charter schools that provide individualized instruction to each child in a welcoming, inclusive environment.

Brookland Campus (Ward 5)

Founded in 2014, Lee Montessori — Brookland offers a highly personalized public Montessori education to a diverse community of 280 students in the former St. Paul’s Seminary campus in Ward 5. This campus serves students in Primary, Lower Elementary, and Upper Elementary classrooms (PK3-Grade 6).

Our Schools

Lee Montessori — East End is the first full public Montessori school East of the Anacostia River. In Fall 2019, we welcomed our first 75 PK-3 and PK-4 students to the joy of a Montessori education. Our goal is to create an environment where children and families have the tools necessary to empower themselves and their community and begin to reverse decades of structural racism. We provide a high-quality, high-fidelity Montessori experience for a racially and socioeconomically diverse community with the goal of empowering each child we serve to transform society. East End will add nine (9) new classrooms in the 2024-2025 school year, to meet our goal of serving 350 students in grades PK3 through Grade 6.

East End Campus (Ward 8)

“Classrooms were peaceful and quiet, and students were happy; lessons were well planned and taught with passion; students with all needs were fully supported; teachers understood the Montessori model and implemented it with fidelity.”
